French Teacher Education Major Requirements

French Teacher Education Requirements
All French Teacher Education majors must complete these classes and complete a minimum of 49 hours:
- LAN 111.12: First Year French Part I
- LAN 112.12: First Year French Part II
- LAN 115.12: Second Year French Part I
- LAN 116.12: Second Year French Part II
- LAN 209.12: French Phonetics
- LAN 213.12: Advanced Techniques in Written French
- LAN 214.12:
Advanced French Conversation and Contemporary Culture
- LAN 220.12: Advanced French Reading and Vocabulary Skills
- LAN 223.12: Introduction to French Literature in Context
- LAN 235.12: Advanced French Grammar (a 'B' or better is required in order to take 319.11)
- LAN 305.12: Histoire de la Civilisation Francaise
- LAN 314.12: Studies in Contemporary Francophone Culture
- or 325.12: Selected Topics in Francophone Literature and Culture
- LAN 319.11: Principles in Foreign Language Learning( fall only, 4 hrs)
- LAN 320.11: Foreign Language Teaching in the K-12 Setting (spring only, 2 hrs/6 weeks)
- 300.12-level elective (325.12, 326.12, 327.12, 328.12, 335.12, 340.12, 385.12)
Please Note:
- Students who will be applying for their initial teaching certification or additional endorsements as of 2/1/2012 must have a grade of “C” or above in all required coursework that is part of their program. This includes all endorsement areas, major courses and professional education.
- OPI score of Intermediate High required before taking 320.11
- OPI score of Advanced Low required for Student Teaching

Curriculum and Instruction Requirements
All French Teacher Education majors must complete these classes:
- EAF 228, 231 OR 235 (228 preferred) *
- C&I 210: Child Growth and Development
- C&I 212: Issues in Secondary Education **
Admission to Professional Studies required to take any courses below this point.
- C&I 214: Literacy in the Content Areas of Secondary Ed
- C&I 216 in conjunction with C&I 216.13: Instructional & Evaluative Methods in Secondary Ed (or 289.75 plus lab, 216.13=combined 214/216, plus lab)
The classes below are for a teacher to be "Highly Qualified" to teach at the Middle School Level. Our majors are not required to take these, but are encouraged to try to fit them into their summer schedules, if possible. Our majors are blocked from these classes during the fall and spring semesters.
* Take after 60 hours of coursework
**C or better req. in ENG 101 and COM 110.
