Spanish Minor Requirements

How do I declare a Spanish minor?


If you are interested in applying to become a Spanish minor, you must follow these steps:

  1. Complete 213.15 with a B or better.
  2. Apply to the major through the iCampus portal. Visit the University College website for more information
  3. Refer to the column to the right for minor requirements.

Special Notes

All Students: Due to high enrollments and limited seats in Spanish classes, it may be difficult to complete a Spanish minor at ISU in the traditional way. We recommend that you take advantage of summer classes at ISU (as seats are available) or explore other options with your advisor. You might also like to consider an ISU-sponsored study abroad, like Granada, Spain in order to earn credit toward your minor.

Spanish minor - minimum of 24 hours

  • LAN 111.15: First Year Spanish Part I
  • LAN 112.15: First Year Spanish Part I
  • LAN 115.15: Second Year Spanish Part I
  • LAN 116.15: Second Year Spanish Part II*
  • LAN 213.15: Advanced Spanish Grammar (213 is the prerequisite for 215, 223, 233, 243 and 244)**
  • LAN 214.15: Conversation and Culture in Spanish OR LAN 223.15: Advanced Spanish Composition OR LAN 240.15: Business Spanish
  • LAN 215.15: Introduction to Spanish Linguistics OR LAN 233.15: Introduction to Hispanic Literature

* Students much earn a 'B' or better in 116.15 in order to enroll in LAN 213.15.
** Students must earn a 'B' or better in LAN 213.15 in order to enroll in LAN 215.15, 223.15, or 233.15.

I am a Spanish minor and I can't register for a major-blocked class - why NOt?

Major blocked classes are for majors-only in our department. Blocks may be taken off near the end of registration. There is often a waiting list to sign in the meantime.
