You have chosen to major or minor in a foreign language. Our professors at ISU are highly qualified instructors who will give you a diverse education here on campus. However, nothing can replace living and studying in a country where one listens to and speaks the language in all situations. Students gain confidence and fluency in a study abroad that they do not while on-campus at ISU. Additionally, the experience looks especially good on a resume and employers are more likely to hire someone who has had a study abroad experience.
As a language major or minor, a study abroad will enhance and strengthen your language abilities as well as build your confidence when speaking and listening.
The Department of Language, Literatures, and Cultures has established relationships with specific study abroad destinations. Thus, students are assured that the destinations are safe and provide a good education and experience. In addition, other aspects such as home stays, registration, finances, excursions, etc., are already agreed upon.
Courses are prearticulated in most cases. This means that students know in advance which courses abroad will count for which course at ISU. The LAN advisor can guide students towards courses which will fulfill major and minor requirements.
Our department's faculty coordinates study abroad programs in Canada, Mexico, Spain, Italy, Japan, France, and Germany. Select one destination from the list to the left for specific details.
