Admission to Professional Studies
Once you have completed 30 hours of college level work (including a C or better in English 101 and Com 110 or their equivalents), you should do the following:
- Attend a meeting for prospective Teacher Education majors in French, German, and Spanish. This is held once each semester. Students will be notified via listservs, announcements in French, German, and Spanish classes, and informational posters in Stevenson Hall.
-
Interview for Departmental Approval. Before you are admitted to Professional Studies, you must receive approval from our Department via an interview process. After you have attended the meeting for prospective Teacher Education majors in Languages, Literatures, and Cultures, you should schedule an interview by turning in the Interview Form at the end of the LAN Teacher Education Guide to the department office (STV 114). The interview is designed to help you clarify your goals and to discuss the program and the profession. In order to be considered for admission to the LAN Teacher Education Program, you must meet the following criteria:
- Possess an ISU cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher
- Possess a major GPA of 3.00 or higher
- Pass an initial oral proficiency check by the LAN Department (speech sample)
- Demonstrate a positive disposition toward teaching via your interview and feedback provided by your professors in your major
- Note: Interviews with program candidates are scheduled only once per semester so you must turn in your Interview Form by mid-September if you wish to be admitted for the spring or by mid-February if you wish to be admitted for the fall.
- Begin Performance Based Assessment (PBA) process for Gateway 1
