Languages, Literatures, and Cultures
The MJ Scholarships are awarded through the Honors Program. These scholarships were endowed by Marie Jessa, a 1926 graduate of Illinois State University who taught business education here from 1946-1966. The purpose of the award is 1) to honor and support Illinois State University seniors who not only have achieved academically, but who have also demonstrated initiative and creativity; and 2) to serve as a challenge for continued development of their potential as fully as possible during their senior year.
You may also qualify for some College of Arts and Sciences Student Scholarships and Grants, such as the CAS Undergraduate Scholar Fund, the Grabill-Homan Peace Prize, the Redbird 5 Scholarship the John and Susan Freed Scholarship and more.
The David J. Parent Scholarship is awarded annually each spring.
Applications are not sent in directly from the student. Instead, faculty in the Languages, Literatures, and Cultures Department nominate likely candidates.
The Joan and Neil Styczynski Transfer Student Scholarship was created by Joan and Neil Styczynski in support of the education community of Central Illinois through Illinois State University and Heartland Community College. With the scholarship, they are “paying back” for the generosity from which they benefited. It is their hope that the recipients of this scholarship will “pay it forward” in helping and affecting lives of young people in a positive way.
Both awards are for $500. Their applications, which can be found at the Development Office 401 Hovey Hall, are usually due in March of each year.
