Advising

This advice does not replace the French and Francophone Studies minor requirements in the undergraduate catalog. Please reach out to Dr. Laura Edwards with any questions or concerns.

The French minor requires 25 hours of FRE courses.
The number of courses you will need to take depends upon AP credit, Seal of Biliteracy, and the level of French at which you start at ISU (because you can earn CAP credit for free that can count toward the minor).

Courses that may count toward elective credit:

  • FRE 215: Advanced French Grammar and Oral Proficiency
  • FRE 237: Critical Readings in French
  • FRE 209: French Phonetics
  • FRE 224: Contemporary France
  • FRE 236: French for Global Business
  • FRE 285: Topics in French Language, Literature, and Culture
  • FRE 305: History of French Civilization
  • FRE 335: Comparative French/English Grammar and Style
  • FRE 340: Introduction to Applied French Linguistics
  • FRE 314: Studies in Francophone Culture
  • FRE 325: Studies in Francophone Literature
  • FRE 385: Selected Topics in French Literature
  • FRE 386: Selected Topics in French and Francophone Cinema

FRE 111 and 112 may also count toward elective credit if you start in FRE 111 or 112 at ISU, earn CAP credit, or transfer the credit from a community college, AP credit, or Seal of Biliteracy.
