Pi Delta Phi – Delta Psi is the French Honor Society at Illinois State University. The student organization's goals are:
- Encourage and welcome French speakers of all levels to our conversation hours.
- Increase the knowledge and appreciation of the cultural contributions of the French-speaking world.
- Welcome and be of service to our local French-speaking community through various volunteer opportunities.
- Recognize excellent students in French and Francophone language, literature and culture.
- Highlight the benefits of learning a second (or third) language through outreach (such as the creation of this all-student-made video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZKSsaAs0lYY&t=1s).
How Can I Join?
While there are requirements for regular membership, anyone in an Intermediate-level French class and higher is welcome to attend events throughout the year. Regular members include graduate and undergraduate students at the sponsoring institution who are nominated in recognition of their academic achievement in French.
Requirements for regular membership:
- Completion of at least one course of upper-division (200-level or higher) French (i.e. beyond the intermediate-level series of courses).
- 3.0 GPA in French and overall, AND rank in the top 35 percent of their class.
- Undergraduate students do not need to be French or French Studies majors or minors to be nominated for regular membership. Graduate students are eligible for regular membership. Students from neighboring institutions who take French courses at Illinois State may be nominated for honorary membership.
